Providing Assisted Learning to students that require a little extra attention

Classes

Beyond Beginnings offers small intimate classroom environments for children. We aim to assist between 5 - 8 children per class. We are then able to assist children on a one on one basis allowing them to reach their goal at a faster pace.

Systematic Learning

Beyond Beginnings incorporates Jolly Phonics, Numicon and Lego 6 Bricks as part of the curriculum. Each of these ensure that the learner grasps various concepts in a creative way using whole-body learning and the outdoor classroom.

An example of multi sensory learning

Multi sensory learning is when we use more than one of our senses simultaneously. For example, looking into a mirror while learning phonics, helps the child look at the articulation of vowels and consonants in the the way their mouth moves and hearing the sound it makes.

What is Assisted Learning?

Assisted Learning is a specialised approach to teaching that helps children with unique needs, following a mainstream CAPS curriculum to achieve academic success and reintegrate into a mainstream class.

Assisted learning differs from remedial learning, which involves a customised study path to address a students difficulties.

Alternative

Each child is assessed on an individual basis so we can ascertain where their gaps lie and if necessary an IEP may be implemented.

We are responsible to provide the necessary skills the children need to achieve to their full potential. While providing feedback to parents.

A respectful learning environment involves kindness, mutual respect and a calm setting for children and teachers.

We believe in collaborating with both parents and therapists to achieve the best results.

Provide the children with the support they need to bridge learning gaps. Ideally, to move the child into a mainstream environment with confidence, being with us or a bigger school environment.

We have just started at Beyond Beginnings, our son is very happy here, his transition was made easier with the guidance of the teachers. Connor started at Beyond Beginnings having no basic alphabet and phonic knowledge, as well as having certain numeracy issues. In the short time that he has been there he is now able to identify and pronounce the phonic sounds for most of the alphabet as well as blend basic words. There has also been a huge improvement in his numeracy understanding. His confidence has grown and he is a much happier little boy who now looks forward to going to school and to learning, overall. The dedication and care that Gail and Vanessa have shown towards Connor is heartwarming and inspiring and we look forward to Connor's continued learning development with them.
